Who we are

The ‘Jungle Hospital’ as it was first called by the people who started building this Hospital was truly in the jungle. As years went by, not only did the Hospital grow but small villages and communities started to make their way in that area. Founded in 1951 as a small clinic in the central part of India, Umri Christian Hospital has grown into a primary medical centre local people rely on for physical and spiritual healing.

How it all began

In 1951, when Dr. Paul Yardy started a clinic to serve the poorest people in and around the small village of Umri. Patients walked, or came by ox cart, often traveling for a day or more to receive the first medical care available in the region. Since then, UCH has brought quality healthcare and hope along with personal and community development to hundreds of thousands of people living in the Yavatmal and Adilabad Districts.

Others Lord yes, others! let my motto be.
Help me to live for others, that I might live like Thee.

The hospital gave me a place of hope and healing, while surviving through the darkest days of my life. Not only it healed me then but also it gave me a life and purpose to live for.

— Swapnil, Ambulance Driver

My life was transformed from hopelessness and a state of despair to epitomes of most joyful feelings of achievements, through the staff of Umri Christian Hospital.

— Shilpa, Staff Nurse
